JAMES MADISON QUOTE - 1822

"A popular government without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives."

Hi, Ark...miss your posts on al.com.

On another note, if you're up for a challenge, or think you can help out, take a drive sometime down to the Scottsboro City Employees lake lot down in Lake View Shores on Gentle Circle.

The place is an accident waiting to happen. One of the docks has collapsed and the broken off pieces are polluting the river. The other dock is on it's way down as well.

I can't believe that this was the way the land donor intended this property to be maintained. But no one seems to care.

Any thoughts, suggestions, etc.???

Thanks for the thoughts and message. I've had friends make some posts for me and I have made some posts from the library and from friends homes computers. al.com can't block the library's IP address but they have blocked the arklite name and my alternate as well as some of my friends forum names. I have wrote the President of Advance Internet in hopes of ending the heavy handed editorial censorship. I do say censorship, as there is a difference between censorship and editorial moderation. This is all about Goose Pond, what the exact connection is to al.com and Goose Pond I have not figured out.

I will drive down and see if I can acquire some pictures. I didn't realize the city still maintains a dock and lot. Who is in charge of maintaining the area, Street Department? You might call Joe Rogers at the Street Department and see what he has to say about the matter.

I'll be posting more info on the City Boat Docks in the next couple of days in a separate posting. Thanks for bringing this out as apparently the docks are in deplorable condition and are a safety hazard.

Great! Thanks!

I'm not sure who is responsible for the maintenance of this area. I think the Word family donated this land for it's current purpose, but certainly would have expected better maintenance.

Long ago, it stayed secured and they (the City) gave out keys to employees that wanted to use the area. Now it just stays open all the time as the gate has been damaged by vandals.

It really needs some maintenance on the banks, too. The land is just washing away. A "seawall" of some construction is needed badly. If you'll notice that old tree stump out in the water to the right of the dilapidated dock. The land used to extend at least out to that stump years ago.

Anyway, thanks for looking into this issue. Hopefully, there is something that can be done and someone that has the ability and desire to make it happen.
