JAMES MADISON QUOTE - 1822

"A popular government without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives."

Garry, are you aware that Jack Smith abstained from voting to hire a temporary business license inspector because he, Sadie and Horrace decided to give Jack's grandson the job without following proper hiring procedures?

My understanding is Tyler Smith was already a county employee. He is on a six month probation now. Furthermore what hiring procedures does Jackson County have? This is retaliation for changes being made to clean up old problems. Why was such a non starter reported to the TV?

Mr. T. Smith was certainly not the license inspector prior to his Grandads election. There is not only the appearance of impropriety but also a probable violation of personnel policy by elected officials, not to mention state ethics laws.

Concerning retaliation for changes made, it could be viewed as a continuation of impropriety and plain ole bad government to support personal agendas via the trading of commission votes for the hiring of relatives.

The license inspector is a position where there should be no involvement in crimes of moral turpitude. A hire is an administrative action, just as a dismissal is an administrative action. This license inspector hire was accomplished after the criminal charges. This is a serious violation of the personnel policy of Jackson County by members of the county commission.

This is one of several acts of impropriety on the part of the commission. It will be interesting to see if some of the commissioners start distancing themselves from Smith, Bias and Clemmons.
