JAMES MADISON QUOTE - 1822

"A popular government without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives."

This letter was a campaign issue regarding the legality of the letter on official Scottsboro Letterhead. I interviewed then Mayor Shelton about this letter, he stated to me, paraphrased, "I paid for the reproduction, typing, distribution, and postage of the letter." Current Scottsboro Mayor Jim McCamy stated to me, quote:  ". . .For the record, I never heard of this org [organization - FATPAC] until someone forwarded me the post. Further more it is a state law that was violated . . . " Photo of Letter and quotations of political officials - Fair-Use for non-profit news reporting, commentary and education, "In the Boro" by G.
