JAMES MADISON QUOTE - 1822

"A popular government without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives."

W.N. "Rockey" Watson to Represent Jackson County Commission in County Park Law Suit??

Jackson County Attorney John Porter

Commissioner Jack Allen

Commissioner Gaylen Stone

Commissioner Horrace Clemmons

Commissioner Jack Smith

Commission Chairperson Sadie Bias

Commissioner Jack Allen reported in an interview after last Thursdays work session, May 6, 2010, that Dekalb County attorney W.N. "Rockey" Watson will represent Jackson County Commission in the case of Jackson County Park vs Jackson County Commission. Mr. Watson had served as the mediator for the county commission due to the commission's recent inability to decide on a Jackson County Engineer choice.

The County Park's Attorney Mr. Gary Lackey had filed a motion with the Jackson County Circuit Court requesting that the county's attorney, Mr. John Porter, should not serve as the attorney for the commission due to a conflict of interest, having served as the parks attorney and the county commissions attorney simultaneously. It was also stated in motions filed that Mr. Porter may be called as a witness in this case. Related story: http://arklite.blogspot.com/2010/04/jackson-county-park-jackson-county.html

UPDATE: The Jackson County Commission voted today, May 10, 2010, after a 30 minute Executive Session, to hire another attorney to represent them in the Park Board case. When asked if they were going to hire Mr. "Rocky" Watson of Dekalb County as their attorney in the case, Ms. Bias replied (paraphrased), "we do not have a contract with any attorney at this time."
