JAMES MADISON QUOTE - 1822

"A popular government without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives."

Scottsboro, Alabama October 15, 2018 - Scottsboro City Council Work Session - A Long Career Draws to a Close, A Look at the Career of a Distinguished Citizen, Peace Officer and Steward of Our Local Government

Council Member Keith Smith, A Community Leader.
Mr. Smith has served the citizens of the City of Scottsboro, Alabama for nearly 48 years in various capacities. First as a Police Officer, then our Police Chief for 26 years, now serving on the Scottsboro City Council for 3 consecutive terms, 12 years. I have not always agreed with Keith, but I have the utmost respect for this Peace Officer, Government Steward, and Outstanding Citizen of Scottsboro, Alabama. When no one else on the City Council would ask the challenging questions, Keith could be counted on to do his civic duty. Now Keith will take his place with the many others serving in the most important position of our local government, CITIZEN. (photo by G. Morgan)
