JAMES MADISON QUOTE - 1822

"A popular government without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives."

September 20, 2021 - Scottsboro, Alabama - Scottsboro City Council Work Session. Employee Awards, Public Hearing, Alcohol Beverage License, Citizen Objection, Unlawful Acts, Entertainment District

Scottsboro City Hall, photo by G. Morgan

Scottsboro City Council Work Session. Employee Awards, Public Hearing, Alcohol Beverage License, Citizen Objection, 21 minutes 22 seconds, to the City of Scottsboro buying, selling, profiting, or loss utilizing Tax Payer Funds for the sale of beer at BBQ Cookoff - Not the roll of city government or city employees being utilized to sell beer or any other alcoholic beverage. The question arises, does this sale of alcohol violate Scottsboro's Municipal Code?

Note - The City Attorney mentions that alcohol has been sold at the Goose Pond Colony (GPC) Complex, and that is true. However, GPC is designated as an "Entertainment District" by the City of Scottsboro Municipal Ordinance. Link: https://library.municode.com/al/scottsboro/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=COOR_CH4ALBE Note - Section 4-29 consumption of alcohol on public right of ways, streets, parking areas etc; also note the designation of GPC as an Entertainment District, Section 4-131, 4-132, 4-133; Unlawful Acts and Offenses - Section 4-134 .
