This was the site where 2 U.S. Army Officers and 4 Korean military soldiers were murdered in 1976 by North Korean Guards wielding axes. 6 U.S. Army enlisted personnel were injured. The officers were supervising the clearing of a tree from the area which was obstructing the view of the DMZ.

Sapper attacks and combat patrols are common place in a place where no man goes, it is a "no mans land," it is the DMZ separating North and South Korea. It has always been an area where your life may only be one shot away from death, the same holds true today.
