Scottsboro City Council Work Session June 6, 2016 - Redevelopment Authority and June Events

Council Member Tony Wallingsford asks questions about agenda item 4, logging operations on the south part of Goose Pond Island. Mr. Wallingsford ask to visit the site to inspect previous logging sites and the current area to be logged. It was stated that best logging practices were being performed as stipulated by the Alabama Forestry Commission. Mayor Melton Potter discusses upcoming projects around the square and community. Square renovation is expected to begin in the Spring of 2017. The Mayor also stated that Scottsboro's credit rating was A+.

Scottsboro Redevelopment Authority (RDA) announced at its 6:30PM meeting there are 2 "Movies on the Square" this month. Friday June 10, 2016 at dusk - "Peanuts" sponsored by Debbie Mathis Reality and June 24, 2016 at dusk - "Woodlawn" sponsored by First Methodist Church.

The Redevelopment Authority also discussed renovation of its properties on Laurel Street on the North side of the square. Other topics included bringing more people into the Scottsboro downtown area such as at First Monday Trade Days Weekend by including other events. Recently the RDA purchased the vacant lot across from the Post Office and will make improvements on the lot for downtown parking.
