Censorship of Scottsboro historical information by Scottsboro Face Book Groups, where the name of Scottsboro is utilized and information concerning race relations and questions about public involvement have been posted, then censored, along with the removal of participation in the groups.

 

Pupose of my involvement on the Scottsboro Face Book sites described: 1) To determine the site's purpose and affect on the City of Scottsboro and assess racial attitudes toward minorities, people of color and the poor in Scottsboro, Alabama. 2) To determine the purpose of the Revive Scottsboro site and discover if the City of Scottsboro is involved, who is involved and exactly what are they attempting to revive in Scottsboro.

 

The following stories of historical facts were posted, the end result was censorship and banning of the writer, me, from two sites which pertain to Scottsboro, Alabama and where the political entity's name is utilized.

 While posting the above articles I was massively, verbally attacked by site members in what can be called a mob mentality of delusion and hatred, in my opinion as a Department of Defense Race Relation Equal Opportunity Specialist, Retired. 

 

The Story: Censors of local history close ranks and public input on Face Book (FB) Scottsboro History site. Examples: "You know you are from the 'boro, If you remember..." 1) August 16, 2014 Pat Patterson -group administrator - "If you're from Scottsboro, here's a place to see who remembers what... from back in the day. This is intended to be a nostalgic page to allow folks to reminisce. Please, keep it light. No advertising of any kind, no political or religious discussion. Not looking for controversy or debate. Basically, just play nice. This is not intended to be a "historical" account or record. Enjoy!" 2) Pat Patterson, group administrator changed the groups privacy settings from Public to Closed. The group header contains a picture of the old Scottsboro Freight Depot.

 UPDATE - At 12:30 PM August 16, 2014 I have been censored and blocked from the FB "You know you are from the 'boro, If you remember..." Mr. Pat Patterson, site administrator, has been given an opportunity for a press interview, he has declined. Since I have been censored, I take it my postings have also been censored-removed.

These events began with the questioning of the purpose of the "Revive Scottsboro" site and remembering of incidents concerning racial discrimination, murder and the head of Andy Jackson being knocked off by a drunk on the square; which includes the subsequent report that the statuary was intended to be constructed of stone, but it was discovered that it was concrete and chicken wire when Old Hickory was decapitated. Mrs. Ann Chambliss did not agree with the report that "Ole Hickory" was supposed to be made of stone and stated, "... the Historical Association commissioned the Chicken Wire and Cement statue as we could not afford the stone one." Others attempted to "goad" me as to my source, which I would not reveal, except to say, "they are very reliable and have posted on this site."

 

At approximately 2:30 PM today, August 16, 2014 - the site administrator of the "You know you are from the 'boro, If you remember..."  has stated he intends on closing the site. After I asked of him if my postings had been removed as I was removed from posting on the site. He said, "it takes a considerable amount of time to delete 2800 members, one at a time."

 The postings of the "Old Hickory" decapitation event, and the postings regarding historical incidents of racial discrimination and other postings relating to history which did not conform to the Face Book site members idea of history, resulted in numerous personal attacks pointed personally at me and now includes censorship and banning from the site for discussion of historical facts and asking questions about purpose of the sites.

This is not the first time personal attacks have occurred, to include threats of murder, harassing communications and terrorist threats pointed at the Scottsboro Boys Museum, stating - "We will burn it down when you get it built." These threats originated on the anonymous Al.Com Scottsboro Forum. Police reports were filed to include a visit to the District Attorney's office but no action was taken to correct the obvious criminal activity.

The problem are groups utilizing the Scottsboro name and pretending to be either a history site, or a site to "Revive Scottsboro." I was removed from the "Revive Scottsboro" site when I questioned why the city was not involved, why problem solving was not implemented for improvements, and why the group was not inclusive of all citizens. Mrs. Ann Chambliss removed me from that site after she warned, "if there was one more negative comment, you will be removed." There was also a reminder that questioning the group leadership or comments about the "Revive Scottsboro" site would not be tolerated.  The so called negative comment was, why wasn't the city of Scottsboro involved and all of the citizens, since the site involves the revival of the downtown Scottsboro area. 

 

Corporate Censorship by News Media

Censorship has been witnessed locally at Scottsboro's Daily Sentinel when writting on issues involving Scottsboro's City Personnel System ratings for city employees and the City's Mayor's Office historical responsibility for failing to improve the system.

Then, there are the so called public forums managed by Advance Digital, such as Al.Com's Scottsboro forum, where political corporate censors have successfully removed any and all political speech which does not support the current powers that be. 2 agent provocateurs utilized over 50 names for 7 years, and they are still there.  Al.Com's news media outlet's forums have been utilized to to convey personal threats, terrorist threats and defamation. Police reports were filed concerning terrorist threats and harassing communications. Local law enforcement and the DA's office failed to investigate. This type of political censorship by corporate news media is very bothersome; considering their responsibility to keep the citizenry informed.

Censorship via Defamation and Creation of a Threat Environment - Al.com and Advance Digital Support Extremist "Agent Provocateurs"

Advance Digital, via its outlet al.com, supports political extremist "Agent Provocateurs" and internet censorship.  Al.com has a long history of censorship and creation of hostile, threatening environments on its forums. Purpose is to discredit citizen journalistic endeavors and support of specific political party and corporate goals. Individual expression concerning political corruption and bad management of  local government is not tolerated, and when a citizen writes about the censorship and dysfunctional culture, this is what happens as depicted in the video below - threats, intimidation, slander.

Al.com has banned me from the Scottsboro forum, canceled my account. Below is my letter to Advance Digital Community Managers. Political extremists, "Agent Provocateurs," who waged a defamation campaign pointed at me for 7 years by name, that included terrorist threats and threats of murder on al.com's Scottsboro Forum. Al.com and Advanced Digital have supported their actions and appear to have actively participated in the defamation via allowing posters or their media staff to have multiple names to defame and threaten.

This is the second "Cease & Desist Letter" to al.com. There have been numerous requests for al.com to stop defamation and threats on their forums.

NOTICE TO CEASE AND DESIST - INTERNET DEFAMATION.

Dear Community Manager,

Reference the Scottsboro Forum - Since your staff disabled the inappropriate posting feature it was impossible to remove offensive postings, I had no other choice but to defend myself, which I have a right to do.

Censorship by defamation and corporate action is supported by Advance Digital - your actions demonstrate that to have occurred. Your failure to control your forum by allowing extremists to make terrorist threats and continue a threat atmosphere is also evident by your failing to follow your own rules.

Self defense from false statements - The offending posters bragged continuously about how they could now post anything they wanted, which they did - including false postings about me by name.  I have a right to defend myself from false statements made about me. 

Since my posting is no longer possible, I have no way to defend myself on your forums. I'm demanding that you Cease and Desist from allowing forum  postings utilizing my name in derogatory, slanderous terms, forms or fashions on your forums.

In addition, since I may no longer post on your forums due to your actions, I request that you remove all postings utilizing my name on your forums since the users contract regarding my postings is no longer valid.

It is my observations that the defamation and personal attacks against me, utilizing your forums, were from extremist political groups supporting racism, censorship and the control of all communications outlets, such as your forums. Further, your action has supported the actions of those who have made terrorist threats and continue defamation.

The same posters reentered the forum for seven years, utilizing over 50 forum names for the purpose of terrorist threats, threats of murder, racist statements, defamation and personal attacks. That would seem to support an inside job at al.com or the offending poster has resources certainly greater than an average citizen.

The sole purpose of the attacks for seven years was that of control of the forum. All I ever asked for is responsible discussion of issues. You as managers of al.com's Scottsboro Forum have not allowed that to happen. By allowing threats, defamation and harassment al.com has worked against responsible discussion. You have permitted censorship of political discussion by encouraging continuous defamation and a threat environment on your Scottsboro Forum.

Because of my complaints to you, you cancelled my account. By your action we no longer have a contract. I ask that you remove all postings utilizing my name.

Al.com forums will be monitored for the purpose of inspection to insure my name is not being utilized in any form or fashion on your web based forums. You allowed defamation by name for 7 years by the same people which you allowed to enter and reenter the forum and defame me. Because of the frequency of attacks, and the ease in which the threatening parties changed forum names, but kept up the same threatening and defamatory attacks, it appears they may be employees of al.com or Advance Internet. After numerous attempts to resolve this problem with you, the defamation and harassment continues and is followed up with a broad censoring action on your part.

Cease and Desist from allowing slander/defamation utilizing my name and the use of my name on your forums.

Content Control - "Potter’s integrity shouldn’t be questioned," says local publisher.

Brad Shurett the Publisher of Scottsboro and Jackson County's Daily Sentinel stated, quote: "Potter’s integrity shouldn’t be questioned - Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Freedom of speech is one of the cornerstones on which this country was founded, even if that opinion is unfounded and based on rumors and bits and pieces of the truth – see Garry Morgan’s column from yesterday as an example...Again, everyone is entitled to an opinion. However, it would be much more beneficial if people relied more on fact and less on rumors and water cooler gossip when forming those opinions." To make a long story short my article was about, "...city leadership at the elected level failing to improve Scottsboro’s Employee Performance Evaluation System."

Shurett the Publisher writes about "freedom of speech" while actually censoring content about local government problems.

I wrote a rebuttal to Shuretts' opinion article as part of my weekly contractual installment.  Shurett censored my article and violated the terms of our contract.

Here is the article which was supposed to be published on January 30, 2014 -

A repeat from last Thursday’s column lead off paragraph and a reply to Mr. Shurett’s Friday column: “The City of Scottsboro has a problem with its performance appraisal system. This reoccurring historical problem is based on city leadership at the elected level failing to improve Scottsboro’s Performance Employee Evaluation System.” This comment is an opinion based on years of education and experience, it is not a rumor.

 A question of integrity, the City of Scottsboro’s Integrity concerning a fair and honest system of performance evaluations for each employee is questionable. That is not a rumor, it is an opinion.

Scottsboro does not have a system in place that utilizes an objective, measurable, performance appraisal system; it is a subjective, opinion based performance appraisal system. Every personnel problem coming before Scottsboro’s Personnel Board in the last 10 years, where a public meeting has been held that I have witnessed, has been the result of no contractual, objective performance appraisal standards.  This paragraph is not a rumor; it is both fact and opinion

Are our elected officials responsible for the integrity of an effective, objective system of performance standards?  YES.  Our elected officials must insure that all employees are accountable by the implementation of a fair and equitable set of objective, measurable performance standards.  That is not a rumor, that is a system of professional, accountable government.

As long as Scottsboro’s City Leadership are not working toward a modern system of objective, measurable, contractual performance standards the taxpayers have a liability. That is my opinion based on years of management education and experience, not a rumor.

It is also not a rumor but a fact that Scottsboro’s Street Department has been embroiled in numerous problems. Some of those problems have resulted in numerous personnel policy and law violations by city employees.

The Mayors integrity is not in question, there is a question of whether this historical problem will continue and Mayor Potter will take action to correct this deficiency in our city’s personnel management process. There is good reason for the citizens to be concerned – lawsuits from past and current employees, continuing problems in the Street Department, and a deficient personnel management appraisal system;  not rumors – concern, facts and opinion.

Tyrants at it Again

Once again the New Jersey Media Moguls, Advance Internet, al.com, in conjunction with the local Democrat Party and the TVA have engaged in their common practice of censorship. Previously the censors would temporarily ban the poster. This time around it is a permanent ban, elimination of the account. This is the 11th instance of political censorship, which I'm aware, that has resulted in the removal of citizens accounts that were discussing topics of a political nature and not in violation of al.com's forum policy.

Subjects discussed this time around: Lowell Barron, local Democrat Party lies, TVA and Nuclear Energy Institute, dangers of nuclear power, Browns Ferry problems, TVA secret financing scheme for nuclear reactors, criminal Acts of the Democrat and Republican Parties and abortion. All postings were removed, discussion of these issues and the poster "orobsttocs1" has been permanently banned. This blog, "Watch for Snakes 'n Scottsboro," was formed due to corporate media and government censorship of political speech. Bringing to the public's attention the actions of large corporate media, politicians, governments officials and corporate entities who would endeavor to censor responsible political speech in the United States of America.

It would seem the local Democrat Political powers, the TVA along with the Nuclear Energy Institute and Advance Media/Internet, al.com, do not care for freedom of expression and reasonable discussion of these issues. They are tyrants of the sort which King George would have been proud. Locally, when unsavory and sometimes criminal acts are shown to have been committed by local politicians and institutions such as the TVA, their corporate handlers perform their acts of tyranny and arrange for local forum postings on al.com to be removed. That is the reason for this blog as there is an active attempt to block citizen thoughts placed into speech. In Scottsboro, Alabama all this expression and open discussion is a relatively new tool in the support of citizen involvement, education and responsible expression. The local Democrat Party tyrants have attempted to "keep the citizens in their place." It has only been within the past 6 years that responsible citizen speech was allowed at the Scottsboro City Council Meetings, the County Commission still does not allow open citizen speech to express concerns at its meetings. Al.com Scottsboro forum only came about within the past 3 years. There is a battle to control political speech on the Scottsboro al.com forum. If the speech doesn't agree with local politicians, local corporate media's slant, or support corporations such as the TVA, the speech is removed, censored.

It has been evident that the speech removal was the result of government officials intervention. In one instance government officials were caught in the act of censorship concerning discussion of illegal acts concerning management of Goosepond Colony, freely admitting the deed, as if government initiated censorship is a respectable thing to do and not a violation of an individual's rights and the denigration of our community.
