JAMES MADISON QUOTE - 1822

"A popular government without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or, perhaps both. Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power knowledge gives."

Dog Pound Progress

Progress on our new Animal Control Facility. Construction began in January however problems developed in the first site, story: http://arklite.blogspot.com/2008/01/decision-has-been-made-on-neighbors-for.html and http://arklite.blogspot.com/2008/01/animal-control-shelter-site-or-dump.html . When the next site was decided, progress was made, the site was cleared and construction begins, February 2008: http://arklite.blogspot.com/2008/02/animal-control-shelter.html

Alabama Department of Corrections inmates are performing the construction project at a considerable savings to the City and County who are sharing costs and duties in the Animal Control Shelter Project. The current picture posted above reflects the projects current progress.

This "considerable savings" project is costing local taxpayers $433,000.00 This is a 1400 square foot building with no special amenities. The labor is basically free and none (or little) of the building materials were purchased locally. I am not trying to be rude but based on $309.00 per square foot, something is not adding up.

There is no rudeness in your comments, facts are facts. Possibly a letter to the editor or addressing the situation to the City Council is in line. I takes more than one or two concerned citizens being willing to speak up about problems concerning our government. Unfortunately the local politicians have successfully indoctrinated the local populace not to ask questions or don't bring up problem issues or you will be labeled as a trouble maker.

Those same politicians and their party of choice will go so far as to call you names and eliminate what you have to say from local media forums such as "al.com."

It takes concerned action demonstrated to our governments leaders to bring problems to the attention of the rest of us, at least those of us who are concerned about government, its roles and its leadership.

I appreciate your comments.
